Like most African countries, South Africa has crime, and unfortunately, the picture portrayed in the Media and newspapers is primarily true. However, most crimes happen in big cities and surrounding areas. One of the reasons we advise our clients to take one domestic flight from JHB to Polokwane or Hoedspruit is to cut out driving time in Johannesburg.

 In our hunting areas, we do our utmost to ensure our clients’ safety. We communicate closely with surrounding farms, community watch, and police. We believe in preparedness and prevention. We will never intentionally expose our clients to dangerous areas or situations. We will communicate any other questions regarding safety with utmost honesty and thoroughness.

Malaria is still a big problem in most African countries. South Africa is one of the least affected, but some rare cases occur in Summertime and early Winter. As we advise most of our clients, if malaria medication does not have adverse effects on your health, it's better to take the medication to be safe in Africa. 

As the world changes, travelling with Rifles becomes more and more complicated. Thus, we offer rifles to our clients. Our professional hunters all have reliable and licensed rifles we offer our clients. In most cases, we do not charge for rifle hire. But depending on whether we have a big group or maybe a dangerous game animal that requires a larger calibre rifle, we will often charge only for ammunition at cost price. These details will be laid out as soon as we confirm your booking with us and communicate with you as we plan your safari.

Whether you are a Family of hunters all in pursuit of hunting Africa or some of you want to do photographic safaris while others hunt, we offer it all. If you would like to combine a hunting Safari with a photographic safari, we do that as well. We also offer other adventures, like fishing or touring.

In South Africa, we operate on game farms. Game farms are fenced areas of wilderness managed by ranchers. So yes, hunting does take place on farms, but caged hunting is illegal. The law of hunting in South Africa states that hunting has to be fair chase.

Thus, we at BG Hunting Safaris will never hunt in areas that do not give an animal the opportunity to get away if not stalked or ambushed correctly. We pride ourselves on giving the animal and the hunter the opportunity to “Win” the hunt.

Usually, we get up at around 5:30 AM. We have a coffee and plan our day depending on bow or rifle hunting and the targeted species. We start by driving around, looking for signs. We most often pursue it on foot. We will break during midday for something to eat and a rest, then continue our hunting day until around sunset.

All our professional hunters have basic medical training. We have top-quality private medical facilities all over South Africa. Your travel health insurance will be accepted by almost all of them. If we need casevac, private helicopters are available in most areas and can be arranged. Your Safety and well-being is our Number one priority.
